"The second half started very evenly, but at length the Rovers scored, sending the ball past Roberts, while an appeal was being made by Aston Villa for hands."
*The Birmingham Daily Post*
Monday, 13 February 1893
BLACKBURN ROVERS v. ASTON VILLA.
The company at Blackburn to see the match between these clubs was estimated at only 3,000. Aston Villa had their best team, but the Rovers were without Bowlder, who, by permission, was playing for Shrewsbury in a cup tie.
There was a strong wind blowing across the ground. At the end of seven minutes Athersmith kicked a goal for Aston Villa. The subsequent play up to half-time was ineffective, but on the whole Aston Villa had the advantage.
The second half started very evenly, but at length the Rovers scored, sending the ball past Roberts, while an appeal was being made by Aston Villa for hands.
Athersmith kicked a second goal for the Villa, but the Rovers again made the score equal putting the ball through out of a scrimmage, and so the game ended in a draw - 2 goals each.
