Tom Riddell

Player #30 for Aston Villa, Thomas Cyril Riddell, known as Tom Riddell played as a full back for the club. Tom represented Villa between 1883-84 and 1885-86.

Tom was born in Handsworth less than 3 miles from Villa’s current ground on 20th March 1858 and made his debut as a 25 year old on 10th November 1883.

Villa had signed Tom from Excelsior FC and he went on to represent the club 10 times across the three seasons.

Tom’s final game for Villa came on the 14th November 1885 at the age of 27 before retiring from football.

Tom played in the era when team selection was made by a Management Committee rather than the latter day more typical Manager role which from the 1884-85 season was led by George Ramsey.

Tom passed away in Birmingham in 1934 aged 76.
