Len Richards
Player #233 for Aston Villa, Leonard Joseph Richards, known as Len Richards, played as a goalkeeper for the club.
Len played for Villa between 1911-12 and 1913-14 making 7 appearances.
Len was born in Woodsetton, Dudley just 11 miles from Villa Park, on 23rd October 1892 and made his debut appearance for Villa at the age of 19 on the 30th March 1912.
Len was the 28th custodian of the Villa goal in League and Cup football and conceded 7 goals in his seven appearances, keeping 3 clean sheets.
Len played the final six games of the 1911-12 season but would not feature in the entirety of the 1912-13 campaign and would only make one further appearance for the club in 1913-14.
Villa had signed Len from Stourbridge in March 1911 but following his six appearances in 1911-12, goalkeeping great Sam Hardy became Villa’s number one and led Len to make his final appearance on Saturday, 18 April 1914 having spent much of the 1913-14 season on loan to Stourbridge.
Len subsequently moved on to Bilston.
Len played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
