Harold Halse
Player #237 for Aston Villa, Harold James Halse played as a centre forward for the club.
Harold played for Villa in 1912-13 making 37 appearances for the club.
Harold was born in Leytonstone on 1st January 1888 and he made his debut appearance for Villa at the age of 26 on the 2nd September 1912.
Villa had signed Harold from Manchester United in July 1912 for a fee of £1,200.
Harold was an immediate success, scoring in his second game and then going on a scoring run of 12 in 6 games including netting all 5 goals in the 5-1 drubbing of Derby County.
It therefore comes as a huge surprise that Harold, in spite of his age, talent, performances, record and the substantial outlay made for his services in the summer of 1912 that he was allowed to leave the club.
Harold moved on to Chelsea but could not recapture his Villa form, hitting just 25 goals in 122 games.
Perhaps homesickness prompted his return to the capital city having spent 5 years away, whatever the reason Villa’s loss was no one else’s gain.
Harold played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Harold passed away in Colchester on 25th March 1949 aged 63.
