On This Day
Villa play their fourth away game in five as Harold Halse scores on his return from injury to earn Villa a fourth win in seven games.
Villa keep their third clean sheet in seven games.
Villa make it four wins, a draw and two defeats in seven division one games so far this season.
Villa sit joint third in the table level with Wednesday who they play next at Villa Park.
Meanwhile the Chris Buckley saga reaches some sort of conclusion as the player is banned by the League from all football activities for two years after being found guilty of attempting to induce an illegal payment from Villa for his services having refused to renew his contract until such monies were forthcoming. Villa are also found guilty of making an illegal payment in relation to their backpay for the period Buckley was out of contract.
The ยฃ250 payment demanded by Buckley was the equivalent of over a year's wages having already received a ยฃ450 benefit match payment despite receipts being below that. Villa's generosity had cost them dearly.
From now until 30 April 1914 Buckley cannot earn his ยฃ4 per week as a footballer. Silly boy.
