Villa lose for the first time in 1912-13 to make it two wins, a draw and a defeat in four division one games.
Villa fail to score for the first time in 1912-13.
There is a strange backdrop to the game as long serving centre back Chris Buckley is suspended by the club and reported to the League after it is alleged that the defender had made threats to the club in reaction to his disappointment at the outcome of his benefit match in 1911-12 and an offer from his retiring farmer uncle in Canada. Bizarre is the least of it.
The game itself descends into a match of needle in the second half before Andy Ducat suffers a horrible injury with 3 minutes remaining as his leg is broken as he takes a free kick. Ducat would not recover and reappear in a Villa shirt for over two years, finally making his return in September 1914.
