Archie Goodall
Player #52 for Aston Villa, Archibald Lee Goodall known as Archie Goodall played as a forward for the club.
Archie was born in Belfast on 3 January 1865 and made his debut as a 23 year old on 13th October 1888.
Villa had signed Archie from Preston North End for £100.
The transfer of Archie from Preston North End to Villa was notable as being the first transfer ratified by the Football League during a season.
Archie became the first player to play for Villa from anywhere other than England, Scotland and Wales. Despite a strong scoring record and the outlay of £100, Goodall played only a single season with Villa.
Archie’s final game came on 9th March 1889 after which he transferred to Derby County.
Archie played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Archie passed away on 20th November 1929 in East Finchley aged 64.
