MATCH QUOTES

“It will be difficult with Liverpool, Newcastle and Middlesbrough up there. “We’ve got a long season to go, it’s only November now and we’re looking forward to trying to qualify for the Uefa tournament. “I managed to take a touch and did a half-volley, it was a fantastic goal. “I thought we had played quite well in the first half, we were working hard and it’s difficult against the top teams. “The win is very important for us, for the team and the club. We have a small club [sic] and we are working very hard.” Nolberto Solano.

He initiated the first scoring chance as he out-muscled and out-foxed Olof Mellberg, forcing the Villa defender to bring him down on the edge of the area. Spurs were handed a free-kick in a promising position but when Michael Carrick tapped the ball for Jermain Defoe referee Chris Foy got in the way of his shot. After Spurs’ promising start Villa gradually took control and a Noureddine Naybet slip let in Carlton Cole, but his well-stru
