Aston Villa survived a hard examination at home to Championship outfit QPR but eventually made it to the third round. Darius Vassell opened the scoring from a Lee Hendrie pass, before striker Juan Pablo Angel doubled the lead with a header from a Nolberto Solano cross Two minutes after the re-start Kevin McLeod capitalised from a defensive mix-up between Olof Mellberg and Thomas Sorensen to give QPR a lifeline. But a superb Solano free-kick put the game beyond doubt.
