Villa suffered their third defeat in 19 League games in a controversial loss at Blackburn. As a result, Villa fell from top spot to second place in the league for the first time in 14 games having been top of the table for 3 months.
Adam Rachel made his sole appearance for Villa aged 22 following the sending off of Michael Oakes. Rachel moved on to Blackpool in September 1999 without adding to his appearances.
Future Villa boss Tim Sherwood scored the winner for Blackburn against 10 man Villa on 88’ whilst future Villa centre forward Chris Sutton lined up for the Rovers.
