It's just not meant to be for Villa

Football isn't 11v11 anymore.

We can talk about Premier League corruption, VAR being unfit for purpose, the vile, negative tactics of opponents being hailed as progression, and all of that can be true. Still at the end of the day, it's not meant to be for Villa and probably never will be again. So we just have to enjoy the journey, even if it ultimately leads nowhere.

Half-Time Comment

A vile club play up to their reputation for thuggery once again. Villa have done enough to be well clear, but nothing has fallen for them. Another home defeat to follow the Everton travesty could be on the cards.

Full-Time Comment

Brentford, as usual, turned up to kick and defend, just as earlier in the season they added a fluke goal to the equation, then sit eleven behind the ball. If that makes you proud as a fan, then you can keep your points. A vile club.
On the only side that matters, Villa, Douglas Luiz* looked like he's never been away, a little rusty but clearly still the imperious player he was, Bailey looks revitalised, Tammy was insanely cheated out of a 'debut' goal, Elliott is beginning to be accepted and at the end of the day we're Aston Villa, and that's all we care about.

*How much did Dougie not want to play for Forest.

What they said

Unai's keeping his powder dry right now.

The Last Word

"After VAR review, the referee overturned the on-field decision of goal to Aston Villa – with the ball deemed to be out of play within the attacking possession phase (APP). Referee announcement: “After review, the ball is factually out of play, so the restart will be a throw-in to Brentford.”

PGMOL keeps a straight face again.

“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”
