James Bree

Player #907 for Aston Villa, James Patrick Bree played as a right back for the club between 2016-17 and 2018-19.

Bree was born in Wakefield on 11 December 1997.

Villa had signed Bree on 25 January 2017 from Barnsley for a fee of £3,150,000.

Bree made his competitive debut for Villa at the age of 19 in the 2-1 away defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, 4 February 2017 and he went on to make 7 appearances, including 1 as a substitute in his debut season.

Bree made 10 appearances in his second season for Villa including appearing in the home leg of the Play Off Semi Final win over Middlesbrough however he was used mostly as a back up to first choice Ahmed Elmohamady.

For the 2018-19 season Bree found opportunities further limited and despite a run of 6 appearances in the first team across the Christmas and New Year period of 2018 he would only make 11 appearances in total before being sent out on loan to Ipswich Town for the remainder of the season on 31 January 2019.

Ahead of Villa’s 2019-20 Premier League campaign and the signing of Frédéric Guilbert, Bree was sent on a season long loan to Luton Town from Thursday, 8 August 2019 to Sunday, 31 May 2020 which was later extended to cover the end of the delayed 2019-20 season.

Bree made his loan move to Luton Town permanent in September 2020 having made a total of 28 appearances for Villa over 4 seasons.

Bree had made his final appearance for Villa on Saturday, 12 January 2019 in the Championship defeat away to Wigan Athletic.

Bree had played under Steve Bruce and Dean Smith.
