Christopher Samba

5724_edited.png

Player #906 for Aston Villa, Veijeany Christopher Samba, known as Christopher Samba played as a centre back for the club during the 2017-18 Football League Championship campaign.

Samba was born in Créteil, France on 28 March 1984.

Villa had signed Samba on a free transfer as an unattached player on 20 July 2017 after his previous deal with Panathinaikos Athens had ended the previous season.

Samba made his competitive debut for Villa in the 1-1 home draw with Hull City on Saturday, 5 August 2017 at the age of 33 and he went on to make 14 appearance for Villa before playing his final game for the club as a substitute on Friday, 13 April 2018 in the 1-0 home win over Leeds United.

Samba scored his only goal for Villa in the home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, 4 November 2017.

Samba was released by Villa on 1 July 2018 aged 34 before retiring from football. A charismatic, popular and imposing figure during his time with Villa, Samba developed a good partnership with fellow veteran John Terry and proved instrumental in Villa’s climb up the Championship table and promotion challenge.
