Charles Apperley

Player #27 for Aston Villa, Charles William Apperley played as a defender for the club. Charles represented Villa in the 1882-83 and 1883-84 FA Cup campaigns.

Charles was born in Birmingham just 3 miles from Villa’s current ground in 1861 and made his debut as a 21 year old on 18th November 1882.

Villa had signed Charles from Birmingham St. George’s and he went on to represent the club 8 times across the two seasons.

Charles’ final game for Villa came on the 19th January 1884 at the age of 23 before moving back to Birmingham St. George’s.

Charles played in the era when team selection was made by a Management Committee rather than the latter day more typical Manager role.

Charles passed away in South Africa in 1926 aged 64.
