Callum Robinson

Player #862 for Aston Villa, Callum Jack Robinson played as a forward for the club in Villa’s 2013-14 Premier League campaign making 5 appearances.

Callum was born in Northampton on 2 February 1995.

Callum joined Villa as a schoolboy and progressed through the Youth Team ranks before singing professional forms with the club in July 2013.

Callum was promoted to the first team squad by Paul Lambert and made his debut as an 82’ substitute for Aleksandar Tonev in Villa’s 0-4 League Cup 3rd Round loss against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, 24 September 2013.

Callum would be named in a Villa squad on one more occasion in 2013 in the 2-0 Premier League win over Cardiff City on Saturday, 9 November 2013 but would remain an unused substitute.

Callum would then not feature for Villa until being named in the squad for five successive matches from Sunday, 2 March 2014 to Saturday, 5 April 2014 without making an appearance.

Callum would then me named in the squad for another five successive matches to the end of the 2013-14 campaign and making four appearances from the substitutes bench including his Premier League debut as an 85’ substitute for Andreas Weimann in Villa’s 0-0 draw with Southampton on Saturday, 19 April 2014.

Callum would make his final appearance for Villa aged 19 in the final game of the season at Tottenham Hotspur after coming on as a 83’ substitute for Leandro Bacuna in another 0-4 defeat to the North London side.

During the 2014-15 season Callum was sent out on loan by Lambert to Preston North End from September 2015 to November 2015. Shortly after returning to Villa, Lambert named Robinson as an unused substitute on 5 occasions between Saturday, 29 November 2014 and Thursday, 1 January 2015.

One of the last actions of Lambert’s bewildering two and a half season reign was to renew Robinson’s loan with Preston from February 2016 for the remainder of the Football League season.

With Lambert sacked, and his replacement Tim Sherwood in post on his return, Robinson was named in the squad for the final Premier League game of the season on Sunday, 24 May 2015 but remained an unused substitute in the 0-1 defeat to Burnley.

Robinson remained with the club in Villa’s torrid 2015-16 relegation season however, perhaps fortunately, he once again spent much of the season out on loan. Sherwood sanctioned a loan to Bristol City from August to January 2016 and on his return Sherwood was gone and replaced by the short-lived Rémi Garde and the new Villa boss once again sent Robinson on loan to Preston North End until the end of season.

At the end of the 2015-16 season with Villa relegated to the second tier, Robinson was released before moving on to Villa’s Football League Championship rivals Preston North End in July 2016 on a free transfer aged 21.

Robinson had played under Paul Lambert and Tim Sherwood.
