MATCHDAY QUOTES
“We came here to give them a game. We got the goal but didn’t sit on it for long enough and gave away a soft goal before half-time.
“I thought the referee got intimidated, Chelsea bossed him and they got some dubious decisions.
“Each to their own, but it’s not my agenda to defend. It’s my agenda to play 4-4-2 and make the most of what I’ve got.”
David O’Leary.

Two goals from Frank Lampard kept Chelsea’s 100% record intact against a game Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
Luke Moore became the first player to breach Chelsea’s defence this season shortly before the break, wrong-footing three defenders before slotting home.
But a minute later Lampard equalised for the hosts, drilling a free-kick straight through the Villa wall.
And Lampard notched a penalty 15 minutes from time after Didier Drogba had been hauled down by Olof Mellberg.
After a cagey opening, Chelsea had the first chance when Arjen Robben released Michael Essien and the Ghanaian shot straight at Villa keeper Thomas Sorensen.
Soon after, Robben put Lampard through but Sorensen turned the England midfielder’s shot past the post.
Robben was cautioned on 15 minutes for a blatant dive in the penalty area but was to torment the Villa defence throughout the first half.
Villa had to wait 28 minutes for their first half-chance when Juan Pablo Angel crossed for Moore, but the young Englishman was unable to make a clean connection.
On the half-hour mark, Damien Duff had a penalty shout turned down after Wilfred Bouma had appeared to tug his shirt.
And John Terry appealed for a penalty shortly after but referee Barry Knight adjudged that the Chelsea centre-back had simply miskicked.
For all Chelsea’s possession, it was Moore who broke the deadlock on 43 minutes, pouncing on an Angel flick-on, shrugging off three defenders and side-footing past the sprawling Petr Cech.
But the Premiership leaders only had to wait a minute for an equaliser, Lampard driving a free-kick straight through the wall from the edge of the area.
Chelsea defender William Gallas had the first chance after the break when he directed a free header over the bar from Robben’s searching free-kick.
On 56 minutes, Angel had his first chance of the match, bringing down the ball on the edge of the box and dragging his shot just wide.
On the hour, Essien floated a delightful ball into the path of substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips but the diminutive winger was unable to get any purchase on his shot.
Drogba, on for Hernan Crespo, headed over on 69 minutes from a Lampard cross before Duff had a stinging long-range shot palmed over by Sorensen.
And the hosts went ahead on 75 minutes, Mellberg hauling Drogba down in the area and the irrepressible Lampard converting the resulting penalty.
And with their noses in front, the defending champions - marking their largest attendance (42,146) since 1986 - were content to run the clock down.
Chelsea are now the first club to win their first seven matches of a Premiership campaign, passing Newcastle’s six in the 1994/95 season.
*Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho:*
“It was a very difficult game. Aston Villa defended well but didn’t come to defend - they came to score goals.
We deserved the victory but they deserve a lot of respect. I was reading about the Premiership being boring but nobody’s scored more goals than us.
Frank Lampard was fantastic - his first goal came at a very important time - but Michael Essien was also outstanding.”
*Aston Villa manager David O’Leary:*
