Álex Moreno 🇪🇸 joins Girona

Álex Moreno has left Villa after spending the 2024-25 season on loan at Nottingham Forest.

Moreno joined Villa from Real Betis 🇪🇸 for €13.50m in January 2023, aged 29, and proved a crucial Unai Emery 🇪🇸 signing, immediately gelling with the system and providing hitherto rare dynamism down Villa's left.

As Emery's influence developed, however, so did his inherited steeds' abilities to improve and deliver, leading early adopters like Álex to be used more sparingly. Lucas Digne's transformation under Emery left Moreno with little hope of regaining his place after 29 appearances in 2023-24, precipitating his loan move to the East Midlands and ultimately his departure for Girona FC 🇪🇸.
