Transfer Window Review: The Gerrard pull in full effect

In two words our review of the transfer window would be thus:
Thoroughly depressing
Olsen
Augustinsson
Bednarek
Dendoncker
Perhaps unfair to include Dendoncker in there but you get what we are saying. Not only is this not what we were promised by Purslow and Gerrard, it's also not what we've been used to having.
Wind back to the early summer months and the arrivals of Kamara and Carlos suggested a window of reinvention. No-one could have predicted just what Gerrard would reinvent us as.
Going back further we have
Coutinho
Digne
Chambers
But despite them being "his" players Gerrard can't get them to perform.
Then there's the ones he refuses to play:
Steer
Guilbert
Sanson
Nakamba
Archer
Or the ones he's shipped out on loan:
Jaden
Traoré
Hause
Iroegbunam
Hayden
Or the one's he's binned entirely:
Targett
Trézéguet
El Ghazi
It would be funny if it wasn't so serious.
Welcome to journeyman FC.
19 Senior professionals.
Two new signings from clubs expected to be in the bottom half and who have deemed the pair surplus to requirements
A 37 year old,
One with one appearance in six months,
One with no appearances full stop,
[At least] One desperate to leave.
As for Gerrard:
He can't attract players
He can't motivate players
He can't build team spirit
He can't set up a team tactically
But he can sure destroy progress.
Villa have made a huge mis-step. The one saving grace is we didn't lose any more players meaning the new manager can reintegrate the banished into the squad.
But the best we can say is maybe, just maybe the section of the fan base who just love to tear Mings, Konsa and McGinn apart will get to see how the other half live. It might shut them up for a while.
