Place it into context however and it is alarming.

Villa under Gerrard were utterly woeful once again.

Gerrard is a failure.

Gerrard is toxic.

Gerrard is incompetent.

Gerrard must go.

These are incontrovertible facts.

Gerrard will send Villa on the way to relegation before jumping ship and washing his hands of the club.

No Villa fan can now sit by and suggest patience is in any way a virtue.

We have been here before. We failed to act. The club nearly died. The fact that this squad is capable of so much more - and proven to be able to deliver so much more - than the 2015-16 intake simply amplifies the utter amateurish incompetence of Gerrard.

We look forward to a new start and new era under and a new manager at the City Ground on Monday.

Anything less would be a travesty.
