Like most Villa fans we were equally troubled, surprised and worried by Tyrone Mings’ squad absence against West Ham.
Despite Steven Gerrard having claimed on Friday a “clean bill of health” for the weekend (Carlos aside) we were suddenly faced with an ill Mings, apparently having been incapacitated since Friday.

Clearly the focus at that moment was on the game however even then something did not sit right when the team sheets were released at 1pm Sunday.
Now - if the rumours are to be believed - it is another clash between 130 game Villa legend Mings and 33 game Villa failure Gerrard - that has led to the former captain’s exclusion.
There are many reasons why Gerrard should be relieved of his duties but few are more damning than what is said to be his toxic, petulant and petty relationship with the squad.
It looks from the outside that the players have stopped playing for the out of depth Gerrard.
With no ill will intended we truly hope Tyrone was poorly on Saturday.
History however tells us to be more than a little wary to accept anything that comes out of Gerrard’s mouth.
