Player #838 for Aston Villa, Jermaine Anthony Jenas played as a midfielder for the club in Villa’s 2011-12 Premier League campaign, making 3 appearances.
Jenas was born in Nottingham on 18 February 1983.
Alex McLeish had signed Jenas from Tottenham Hotspur on a season long loan deal in August 2011. Jenas however was effectively injured for his entire loan spell with Villa however yet again on pure playing capability McLeish had made another astute signing that would undoubtedly have brought some authority and calm to the Villa midfield.
Indeed it is fair to say that Villa boss Alex McLeish had an extremely unlucky time with transfers. He had brought in players of the calibre of Jenas, Shay Given, Charles N’Zogbia, Alan Hutton and Robbie Keane but for differing reasons all would be unable to show their full potential for Villa during their stays. Yet regardless the squad building done by McLeish was significantly better than under his immediate predecessor.
Jenas made his debut appearance as a 67’ substitute for Emile Heskey in Villa’s 3-2 win over Norwich City on Saturday, 5 November 2011.
Jenas made a second appearance as a substitute for Emile Heskey in the 69’ of the 0-0 draw at Swansea City on Sunday, 27 November 2011 before making his first start in his final game for the club on Saturday, 3 December 2011 with Villa losing 0-1 to Manchester United.
Thereafter Jenas’ injury problems kept him out of consideration for any more Villa squads and he returned to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of his loan deal in May 2012 aged 29.
Jenas had played under Alex McLeish.
