Fred was born in Hemmingfield, Barnsley on 14 August 1913 and made his debut appearance for Villa on the 22 September 1934 aged 21.
Villa had signed Fred from from Wombwell FC in April 1931 and he was to make his final appearance for Villa just 7 days later on 29 September 1934, before moving to Blackpool in August 1936.
Fred had played under Villaโs first manager proper, Jimmy McMullan.
Fred passed away in Bournemouth in May 1996 aged 82.
