Player #39 for Aston Villa, Richard Rex Robertson, known as Dick Robertson played as a centre half for the club. Dick represented Villa between 1884-85 and 1886-87.

Dick was born in Hockley less than 3 miles from Villa’s current ground in December 1860 and made his debut as a 23 year old on 3rd November 1884.

Villa had signed Dick from Excelsior FC and he went on to represent the club 3 times across the three seasons. Despite playing so few games 2 came in the early rounds of Villa’s run to their first FA Cup success in 1886-87.

Dick’s final game for Villa came on the 11th December 1886 in the first game of the 3rd Round fixture vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers which would ultimately run to 4 games including 3 replays until Villa finally settled the fixture in their favour. Dick subsequently moved on to Stourbridge FC.

Dick played in the era when team selection was made by a Management Committee rather than the latter day more typical Manager role which from the 1884-85 season was led by George Ramsay.

Dick passed away in Birmingham in 1921 aged 61.
