Brett Holman
Player #849 for Aston Villa, Brett Trevor Holman played as a winger for the club in Villa’s 2012-13 Premier League campaign, making 29 appearances and scoring twice.
Holman was born in Bankstown, Australia on 27 March 1984.
Paul Lambert had signed Holman from AZ Alkmaar on a free transfer in July 2012 and amongst a raft of lower league signings, Holman represented an experience head. In a mystery to rival that of Chris Herd however, although not quite, there was a certain irony that another Australian had arrived at the club, made the first team, hadn’t looked unduly compromised and yet suddenly and swiftly disappeared from the scene.
Even for a regime as bewildering as that of Lambert’s this was an outlier in confusion.
Lambert handed Holman his debut aged 28 in the opening game of the 2012-13 season in Villa’s 0-1 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday, 18 August 2012 and he went on to feature in every one of Villa’s 21 Premier League squads to New Year’s Day 2013, making 15 starts and 6 substitute appearances whilst scoring twice and contributing two assists.
Across the final 21 games of the season, Lambert handed Holman one start and 5 substitute appearances including his final appearance on Saturday, 4 May 2013 as a 78’ substitute for Yacouba Sylla in Villa’s 2-1 win over Norwich City.
Holman would move on a free transfer to Al-Nasr in July 2013 aged 29 after one of the most contrasting two halves of a football season as you are ever likely to see.
Holman had played under Paul Lambert.
