Biography
Brad Young
Player #962 for Aston Villa, Brad Young played as a centre forward for the club in the 2020-21 season making his sole appearance in that season’s FA Cup.
Brad was born on 6 January 2003 and signed professional forms with Villa in July 2019 aged 16.
Young was promoted to Sean Verity’s Under 18 Premier League squad for the 2019-20 season and in the 2020-21 campaign Young scored seven times in his first nine appearances. His form earned a call-up to the Under-21 EFL Trophy squad for their game against Carlisle in November 2020, when he started as the lone striker.
Mark Delaney promoted Young to the first team squad and gave him his first team debut in the 2020-21 season aged 18 as a 61’ substitute for fellow debutant Ben Chrisene in the 1-4 FA Cup defeat to Liverpool on Friday, 8 January 2021.
Young was part of the youngest ever squad to be named by Villa for a professional game - aged 18.30 years on average - after the first team squad was forced into isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic which had seen a raft of players and staff testing positive for the virus in the week preceding the game.
Young was also one of 16 debutants in the game - the most in a single game in Villa’s history. Young made his debut appearance under caretaker manager Mark Delaney after Villa boss Dean Smith was required to join the first team in isolation.
Young rose to unwelcome prominence in June 2020 after being stabbed in Elmdon Park, Solihull however fully recovered from his injuries with “a man aged 24 has been arrested on suspicion of wounding and drugs possession, while two others, a man and a woman, have been held on suspicion of wounding”.
