Bert McLachlan

Player #251 for Aston Villa, Albert James McLachlan, known as Bert McLachlan, played as a midfielder for the club in a position then known as a left half.

Bert played for Villa in 1913-14 making 3 appearances.

Bert was born in Kirkcudbright, Scotland on the 18th February 1892 and he made his Villa debut in the New Year’s Day fixture of 1914 aged 21.

Bert had begun his playing days with his home town team St Cuthbert’s Wanderers before joining up with his brother at Villa, forward Andy McLachlan, in September 1913.

However the two played in the same side on only one occasion - the 1-3 loss to Newcaste United on Saturday, 4 April 1914.

Bert was limited to three League appearances for Villa before returning to Scotland with Aberdeen a year later where he would go on to make over 300 appearances over the following decade.

Bert had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Bert passed away in Edinburgh in 1956 aged 64.
