Arthur Dobson

Player #244 for Aston Villa, Henry Arthur Dobson, known as Arthur Dobson played as a midfielder for the club in a position then known as a half back.

Arthur played for Villa between 1912-13 and 1914-15 making a total of 7 appearances for the club.

Arthur was born in Chesterton, Staffordshire in April 1893 and he made his Villa debut on the 15th February 1913 aged 19.
Villa had signed Arthur from Audley North Staffs in August 1912.

Arthur proved to be a back up player for the club and did not appear in Villa’s run to the FA Cup win over Sunderland in his first season and so missed out on the opportunity of playing in the Final in front of a crowd of 121,919 at Crystal Palace, London in April 1913.

Arthur made just one league appearance that season, his debut, and would not feature at all the following year. In 1914-15, Arthur made his only FA Cup appearance and added another five league games to his tally.

Arthur had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Like many players of the era, Arthur’s career was interrupted by the Great War during which he was killed in action.

Arthur was wounded during the Spring Offensive and died on 29 March 1918.

He was buried in Prémont British Cemetery. He served with the North Staffordshire Regiment.

Arthur was 24.
