Albert Aldridge
Player #56 for Aston Villa, Albert Arthur James Aldridge, played as a full back for the club.
Albert represented Villa 17 times during the 1889-90 season.
Albert was born in Walsall, less 10 miles from the current Villa ground on 13th April 1864 and made his debut for the club as a 25 year old on 7th September 1889.
Villa had signed Albert from Walsall Town Swifts.
The Villa News and Record of 1st September 1906 paid tribute to Albert:
“Won his spurs with WBA for which club he showed consistent form for several seasons. A dogged, fearless back; reliable at close quarters, with flashes of real brilliance in the open. The harder the tussle, the better he played.”
Ill health forced Albert to retire from football and his final game came on 28th December 1889 aged 25.
Albert had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Albert passed away in Birmingham in May 1891 aged just 27.
