MATCHDAY QUOTES
“We had our hearts in our mouths at times.
“I suppose for quite a few of my players its rare for them to be in a Uefa Cup match where they are hanging on by the skin of their teeth.
“We knew one goal would put paid to the game and because we never looked like scoring a second it was a matter of protecting the lead.”
John Gregory.

*Villa on track for Uefa Cup*
Dion Dublin’s fifth-minute strike kept alive Aston Villa’s hopes of a place in this season’s Uefa Cup.
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg in France, Villa won on home soil to book their place in one of three Intertoto Cup finals on the away goals rule.
Standing between the Premiership side and a place in the Uefa Cup is Basle, who defeated fellow Swiss outfit Lausanne Sports.
Dublin side-footed the ball home from 10 yards following a superb cross from David Ginola, who had been recalled to the starting line-up by manager John Gregory.
Rennes had chances to level on the night but could not find a way past Peter Enckelman in the Villa goal.
“We had our hearts in our mouths at times,” said Gregory. “I suppose for quite a few of my players its rare for them to be in a Uefa Cup match where they are hanging on by the skin of their teeth.
“We knew one goal would put paid to the game and because we never looked like scoring a second it was a matter of protecting the lead.”
