Villa's light at end of Euro tunnel
OUT of the adversity which is threatening to ruin Aston Villa's season came the light of a famous European victory at Villa Park last night.
Goals from lan Taylor and Dwight Yorke took them into the third round of the UEFA Cup for the first time in 20 years.
With 27 minutes gone Milosevic dragged down a cross-field pass, by-passed a marker and then sent over a high cross. The Bilbao goalkeeper seemed to hare control of the bail but let it bounce on his chest. Yorke, waiting close by, unsettled the goalkeeper further and the ball rolled obligingly to Taylor.
Yorke extended Villa's advantage with a piece of in the 50th minute reminiscent of happier times at Villa Park. Milosevic fed Taylor and the midfielder turned provider, side-footing a pass to Yorke. Mark Draper, outstanding in the first leg, was a clever decoy, pulling a defensive marker wide and allowing Yorke to step beyond Altor Larrazabal and find the space to shoot, his effort finding the bottom left-hand corner.
In the 68th minute, Bilbao made a third substitution, introducing Javier Gonzalez, and within two minutes the forward gave the visitors hope with a goal.
