Villa lose their penultimate game of the season as they are beaten at Villa Park by Luton.
Villa fail to score for the seventeenth time this season and make it fourteen wins in forty one League games, losing fifteen under Graham Turner.
Gordon Cowans, 26, becomes the latest player forced out of the club by Chairman Herbert Douglas Ellis as he makes his 357th and final appearance of his first spell with Villa before joining Bari in July for a fee of ยฃ500,000.
Cowans is the ninth member of the fourteen man League title winning squad that has now been sold by the Herbert Douglas Ellis regime. Cowans played for Villa between 1975-76 and 1984-85 and his departure followed those of Kenny Swain, Ken McNaught, Jimmy Rimmer, David Geddis. Tony Morley, Eamonn Deacy, Des Bremner and Dennis Mortimer.
