Ron Saunders' Villa win for the first time in seven to make it thirteen wins, twelve draws and nine defeats in thirty four League matches this season. Meanwhile, midfielder Pat Heard made his Villa debut aged 20 after moving from Everton in October 1979 for a fee of £150,000.
Also appearing for the first time was midfielder Robert Hopkins who made a goalscoring debut from the subs bench aged 18 after joining from school football in June 1977.
