Villa were denied victory as Birmingham City equalised late to draw 1-1 in Premier League 2 on Friday night. Brad Burrowes scored his third goal in two games with a close-range finish in the 56th minute, after connecting with Yeimar Mosquera’s header from a corner. However, Louie Rea equalised for Blues in the 89th minute from six yards, sharing the points. Neither team gained Midlands bragging rights on a wet, windy night at The Arden Garages Stadium, home of Stratford Town. Jimmy Shan’s unbeaten side in two PL2 matches hopes to extend their form at home against Newcastle United next Friday. Villa made one change from last weekend’s 5-4 victory over Ipswich Town, with Sam Proctor starting in goal and Kadan Young, who provided a match-winning assist in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday, starting in attack. Young almost gave Villa the lead early, nearly connecting with Burrowes’ low cross after just three minutes. The visitors initially controlled 67% of possession, though scoring chances were limited. Mosquera and TJ Carroll held the defence firm as Blues applied pressure, with Briar Bateman missing a close shot in the 27th minute. Trai-Varn Mulley and Young combined at the far post, but Mulley's shot was blocked by Cameron Eubank, and Mosquera headed over from a corner, leaving the game goalless at halftime.
