Villa entertained a strong Rosenborg side at Villa Park this evening, with the Norwegian's including several first-team regulars in their starting line-up.
During the early exchanges, it was evident that Rosenborg were very competent in possession, and after only six minutes, Mushaga Bakenga opened the scoring to take his tally for the tournament to five from three games.
Villa grew in confidence after going behind, and deservedly levelled just before the break, through Irish Centre-forward Graham Burke, to make it 1-1 at Half-Time.
The second half saw numerous chances for both teams, but Gary Gardner put on a master class performance from midfield to put the Home side on the front foot. He scored Villa's second in the 60th minute with a neat finish, whilst late goals from Graham Burke and Michael Drennan sealed victory for the Villains.
The introduction of exciting winger Jack Grealish injected further impetus into Villa's play, and the 16-year-old played a pivotal role in the two decisive late goals.
Firstly, Grealish fizzed a ball across goal which Burke expertly controlled at the back post and hammered home to make it 3-1 on 84 minutes.
And three minutes in to stoppage time, his sublime dribble down the left paved the way for another substitute, strikerย Michael Drennan, to convert a left-foot strike
The result leaves Villa on nine points from their opening four games, just one point off Group leaders Ajax.
