William Crossland

Player #10 for Aston Villa, William Samuel Crossland played as a forward for the club.

William made his debut in the 1879-80 FA Cup campaign - Villa’s first entry into the competition

William was born in West Bromwich, seven miles from the current Villa ground, on 1st February 1856 and made his debut as a 23 year old on the 13th December 1879.

Villa had signed William from Oldbury Town and he went on to represent the club across 3 seasons from 1879-80 to 1881-82.

William’s final game came on 5th November 1881 having made 6 FA Cup appearances and having reached the 4th Round on two occasions. He retired from football through injury aged 25.

William passed away in Birmingham in February 1923 aged 67.
