William Adshead

Player #294 for Aston Villa, William Ewart Adshead, known as William Barnie-Adshead played as a centre back for the club.

William played for Villa in 1922-23 making 2 appearances and scoring once.

William was born in Tividale, Dudley, just 10 miles from Villa Park, on 10 April 1901 and he made his debut appearance for Villa on 2 September 1922 aged 21.

Villa had signed William from Corinthians on loan in August 1920.

William made his final appearance just 2 days after his debut on 4 September 1922, scoring for good measure before returning to Corinthians.

William’s contribution to Birmingham wasn’t over on his departure however, not content with representing Villa, the now Dr Adshead was a gynaecologist and obstetrician to Birmingham United hospitals and represented Worcestershire 12 times in First-class cricket.

William had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

William passed away in Edgbaston, Birmingham on 28th February 1951 aged just 49.
