Player #102 for Aston Villa, Leonard Arthur Benwell, known as Len Benwell as well as Lou Benwell, played as a goalkeeper for the club.

Len made only one appearance for Villa, in the 1893-94 season.

Len was born in Worcester in 1870 and made his only appearance for the club as a 23 year old on the 18th November 1893.

Len was the fifteenth custodian of the Villa goal in League and Cup football and despite playing just once, Len made a contribution to the 1893-94 title winning campaign keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Pike’s Lane.

Villa had signed Len from Worcester club Berwick Rangers before moving on to Walsall Town Swifts.

Len had played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Len passed away in Worcester on 28th October 1936 aged 66.
