Jim Dawson

Player #17 for Aston Villa, James Hubert Dawson, known as Jim Dawson played as a defender for the club. Jim played for Villa in the 1881-82 FA Cup campaign.

Jim was born in Stoke-on-Trent in August 1859 becoming the first English born Villa player to not hail from the Birmingham area. Jim made his debut as a 22 year old on the 5th November 1881.

Villa had signed Jim from Forest Courtiers FC and he went on to represent the club a further four times scoring once.

Jim’s final game for Villa came on 21st January 1882 at the age of 22 in the 3rd Round 2nd Replay against Notts County at Wellington Road. Jim moved on to Burton Swifts shortly thereafter

Jim played in the era when team selection was made by a Management Committee rather than the latter day more typical Manager.

Jim passed away in February 1927 in Burton-on-Trent aged 67.
