James Gillan

James represented Villa three times during the 1893-94 season.

James was born in Derby in December 1870 and made his debut as a 22 year old on 23rd September 1893.

Villa had signed James from Burton Swifts and he went on to help Villa secure the League title in 1893-94.

James’ final game for Villa came just 6 weeks after his debut on 14th October 1893 after which James moved to Brierley Hill Alliance.

James played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

James passed away in Ilkeston in 1944 aged 74.
