Enda Stevens
Player #851 for Aston Villa, Enda John Stevens played as a left back for the club in Villa’s 2012-13 Premier League campaign making nine appearances.
Enda was born in Dublin, Ireland on 9 July 1990.
Alex McLeish had signed Enda from Shamrock Rovers for £257,000 in January 2012 and after spending time in the Villa youth set up before being promoted to the first team squad by Paul Lambert and making his debut as a starter in Villa’s 3-0 League Cup win over Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday, 28 August 2012. Lambert substituted Enda on 67’ for Brett Holman.
Enda’s next squad appearance came as a 30’ substitute for Chris Herd in the following round of the League Cup with Villa beating Swindon Town 3-2 on Tuesday, 30 October 2012.
Enda would then be named in the next 5 Villa squads before injury ruled him out of contention. Over that run Enda made one substitute appearance and four starts as Villa won two, lost two and drew once between Saturday, 3 November 2012 and Tuesday, 27 November 2012 in what would prove to be Enda’s longest spell in the side.
With Villa’s form failing under Lambert and on the back of a record 0-8 defeat followed by a 0-4 reverse over the 2012 festive period, Enda was recalled to the squad and was an unused substitute in Villa’s third successive game without scoring as they lost 0-3 to Wigan Athletic.
Enda would be named in the starting line up for the following game as Villa managed to eke out a 2-2 draw at Swansea City on New Years Day 2013. Enda would feature in four more Villa squads during which he would make his final start and final appearance for Villa in the 0-1 Premier League defeat to Southampton on Saturday, 12 January 2013.
In total Enda had made seven starts and two substitute appearances for Villa.
Although Enda remained with Villa for the 2013-14 season, Lambert sent him out on loan to Notts County and Doncaster Rovers.
In the 2014-15 campaign Lambert sent Enda on a one month loan to Northampton Town from October to November 2014 and subsequently a loan to the end of the season with Doncaster Rovers.
On his return to Villa, Lambert had been sacked and his successor Tim Sherwood was installed following which Enda moved on to Portsmouth in July 2015 on a free transfer aged 24.
Enda however wasn’t finished with top flight football and following his spell with Portsmouth joined Sheffield United who after gaining promotion to the Premier League for the 2019-20 campaign stunned the competition to finish comfortably in the top half of the table with Enda a key factor in the team’s performance.
Enda had played under Paul Lambert.
