Bill Watts
Player #14 for Aston Villa, William Henry Watts, known as Bill Watts played as a utility player for the club. Bill represented Villa in just a single season, the 1880-81 FA Cup campaign, appearing 3 times.
Bill was born in Yardley, Birmingham, 7 miles from the current Villa ground, in 12th April 1859 and made his debut as a 21 year old.
Villa had signed Bill from Cocknage FC and was to appear on three occasions en route to the 4th Round of the 1880-81 FA Cup campaign.
Bill’s final game came on 19th February 1881 before his retirement aged just 21 due to a knee injury.
Bill played in the era when team selection was made by a Management Committee rather than the latter day more typical Manager role.
Bill passed away from pneumonia in Birmingham on 28th September 1913 aged 54.
