Player #235 for Aston Villa, William Morris, known as Bill Morris played as a centre back for the club.
Bill played for Villa between 1911-12 and 1914-15 making 53 appearances
.
Bill was born in Danesmoor, Derbyshire on 12th February 1888 and made his debut appearance for Villa at the age of 24 on the 6th April 1912.
Villa had signed Bill from Chesterfield Town in March 1912 and his Villa career was to take off in the 1912-13 season.
Bill had lived in America before becoming a professional footballer, playing football stateside before returning home prior to joining Villa in 1912.
Bill became a regular squad player, appearing in both of Villa’s League runner-up seasons 1912-13 and 1913-14 and scored his only Villa goal against West Ham in the Cup run of 1913 (he did not play in the latter stages of the competition).
Like many footballers of the time, WW1 interrupted Bill’s career and he made no further appearances for the club before moving on to Shrewsbury Town in 1919.
Bill hung up his boots in 1921.
Bill played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Bill passed away in Birmingham on 17 March 1949 aged 61.
