Bert Goode

Player #228 for Aston Villa, Bertram John Goode, known as Bert Goode played as a forward for the club.

Bert played for Villa in the 1911-12 season making 7 appearances.

Bert was born in Chester on the 11th August 1886 and made his debut appearance for Villa at the age of 25 on the 18th November 1911.

Villa had signed Bert for £250 from Wrexham in April 1910.

Like his contemporary Jimmy Birch, Bert was short in stature for a footballer at 5 ft 7 1/2 inches tall and weighing 11 stone but he made up for that with his tenacity - scoring a brace in the 5-0 thumping of Liverpool in December 1911.

Bert’s final game came on 16th March 1912 and true to form he scored his 3rd and final goal for Villa. Bert moved on to Hull City in May 1920 for a fee of £300.

Bert played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.

Bert passed away in Wrexham on 30th April 1955 aged 68.
