Bert Banks
Player #153 for Aston Villa, Herbert Ernest Banks, known as Bert Banks played as an inside forward back for the club.
Bert played for Villa in the 1901-02 season making 5 appearances
Bert was born in Coventry on 19 June 1874 and made his first appearance for the club as a 27 year old on 7th September 1901.
Villa had signed Bert from Millwall Athletic but as with the signing of Tommy Wilson the previous season he was unable to hold down a first team place at Villa Park.
During his time with Millwall Banks had won an England cap however his club career saw him rarely stay with a club for too long and despite his promise he proved to be an early footballing journeyman.
He left Villa for Bristol City within months of his debut and continued to move regularly however he did embark on one remarkable season with Watford.
In the 1904-05 season he hit 21 goals in 19 games for the Hornets
Bert played under the George Ramsay led Management Committee.
Bert passed away in Smethwick in 1947 aged 72.
