Meanwhile, Colin Gibson made his final appearance for Villa aged 25 before moving on to Manchester United later this month for a fee of £275,000. Gibson played for Villa between 1978-79 and 1985-86 making 239 appearances and scoring 17 goals. Gibson was the eleventh member of the fourteen man League title winning squad that had now been sold under Chairman Herbert Doug Ellis’ purge following on from Kenny Swain, Ken McNaught, Jimmy Rimmer, David Geddis, Tony Morley, Eamonn Deacy, Des Bremner, Dennis Mortimer, Gordon Cowans and Peter Withe.
