Villa face Norwich City for the first time in competitive football, Norwich become the 82nd team that the Villa first team has played in League or Cup football.
Villa end a run of consecutive defeats to win for the second time in seven games under Jimmy Hogan to make it three wins in their last fourteen second tier games and seven wins, eight draws and five defeats in twenty division two matches. Jimmy McMullan had recorded five wins, five draws and three defeats in his thirteen division two matches in charge and his successor Jimmy Hogan had now delivered two wins, three draws and two defeats in his seven game spell. Meanwhile, forwards Freddie Haycock and Bob Iverson, 24 and 26, made their Villa debuts after joining from Prescot Cables and Wolverhampton Wanderers in February 1934 and earlier this month respectively.
