Villa face Grimsby Town for the first time in competitive football, Grimsby become the 44th team that the Villa first team has played in League or Cup football and the first new opponent Villa have faced since playing Milwall 68 games previously.
Grimsby more than hold their own until Villa take full control of the game in the second half.
Villa beat Grimsby to win for the first time in three and make it seven wins, four draws and five defeats in sixteen division one games.
Villa get back to winning ways as Grimsby are despatched at Villa Park with a Jasper McLuckie hat-trick - his tenth goal in seven games since his debut but he knew little about his hat-trick ball as a clearance hit him straight in the face, trickling over the line leading to his retirement from the game on 81'.
