ASTON VILLA, 4-1 down at half-time, staged a tremendous comeback at Carrow Road today. Norwich went ahead through a Ted MacDougall penalty but Villa replied with a Ray Graydon spot kick.
Then just before half-time, Norwich lashed home three goals from Duncan Forbes, Steve Grapes and MacDougall.
In the second half Villa powered back with a Charlie Aitken goal and another from Graydon but MacDougall went on to complete his hat-trick.
But Villa came back and Forbes was forced to concede a corner when Leonard challenged him in the air.
In the 33rd minute Norwich took a surprise lead from the penalty spot. Nicholl handled a through ball just inside the area and MacDougall scored.
Two minutes after the opening goal, Villa pulled level from the penalty spot.
Referee Taylor noticed pushing inside the Norwich area as Graydon took a corner kick and he immediately pointed to the spot.
This time It was Graydon’s turn to hammer the ball home.
Shortly before half-time, there were three goals in four minutes for Norwich. It started in the 41st minute when Forbes headed in after Sullivan’s free-kick had been hiked on
Two minutes later GRAPES shot into an open goal after the Villa defence had been split wide open and then in the 44th minute McDOUGALL claimed his second goal by heading past Cumbes after Grapes crossed from the wing. (IC 11111 g NORWICH CITY 5, A "I'M pleased we won—but it's great for football," said Bond after this goal feast a. And the fans will be the first to agree, on a ground where goalscoring is often at a premium. These two teams matched the holiday weather with an f attacking spectacular. It wasn't brilliant, tactical play from start to finish but there were moments which had the crowd purring with delight. Villa, managed by ex- Norwich boss Ron Saunders, took the League Cup when the two teams met at Wembley—then ruined Canaries' promotion celebrations with a 4-1 win at the end last season. But Norwich forgot these disappointments with a storming 15-minute display at the end of the first half, that brought them three goals and drained Villa's confidence.
Slack But with a 4-1 interval lead, Norwich clearly thought that it was all wrapped up. They gave Villa the chance, however, to get back into the picture with some slack moments in defence. Lack of urgency and some fatal moments of hesitation set the scene for a grandstand finish, as Villa crept up to 4-3, But as Norwich fans were biting their nails, up stepped that man Ted MacDoitgall, to score the best and last goal of the match He won a midfield duel with England man Little, then charged like a bull at the Villa defence. He twisted this way and that, confusing the Villa defenders, before crashing a low 15-yard shot in off the far post to complete a splendid hat-trick. He scored hls first from a penalty in the 24th minute, which was equalised
