MATCHDAY QUOTES
"The performance was tremendous, but the result was disappointing.
“It was a great test of character and ability and the players came through it very well.
“I was proud of everyone of them.
“Fear is the biggest factor in matches like this.
“Not enough attention is paid to psychology in soccer.
“Players can be afraid to lose and if that’s the case you do lose.
“I told the lads to forget about this. Take the ball to Spurs I said. Attack them.
“Of course we are disappointed but if we had to lose I would rather it was this way.
“We were far from disgraced and the lads can hold their heads high.
“I don't feel that the defeat will damage our promotion hopes, but we will have to wait and see if there is any reaction from the players.
“We will know that after Friday night when we have played at Tranmere.
"This [promotion] is still the big prize for us and has been our target all season.
“We could have been into Europe now, but it would not have really meant much to us unless promotion followed.
"In my estimation it [the Cup final defeat] shouldn’t affect them.
“The players did everything but win the Cup.
“It was most probably the happiest losing finalists's dressing room of all time.”
Vic Crowe.
"All the players know the job we have to do now.
“Promotion means everything to us and i still feel we will he back in the Second Division next season.”
Brian Godfrey.
"The only difference between the sides was that Spurs took their chances and we didn’t.
“I went past Phil Beal and shot. It rebounded from Jennings and I hit it again, I thought it was a certain goal but Beal just got a toe to it.”
Bruce Rioch.
"I should have scored easily. but I fouled Peter Collins by pushing him into Pat Jennings and hesitated thinking that the whistle would go for a foul.
“I though I had hit the ball well enough but my shot struck Jennings and it seemed to lose its pace as it rolled towards goal.
“I was surprised when the referee only awarded a throw in after Steve Perryman came from nowhere to clear the ball near the line.”
Andy Lochhead.
