Villa suffer a shock defeat to fifth from bottom Walsall but remain second in the table, level on points with Fulham. Villa though are four points behind leaders Bristol Rovers - who they play next - and Torquay, two points behind now have two games in hand on Vic Crowe’s side. Villa’s defeat is however overshadowed by the news that ‘keeper John Dunn was involved in a car crash in West Bromwich the following day to leave him hospitalised.

MATCHDAY QUOTES
“John Dunn’s unfortunate accident is a blow but I refuse to be panicked.
“I shall wait to see what our specialist has to say before I come to any decisions [about bringing in a replacement ‘keeper.]
“It would be foolish to do anything hasty until I know the full extent of the damage.
“He will have an operation later this week.
“We may have to try to borrow an experienced goalkeeper if Dunn does not make a quick recovery.
“But it is not always easy to get a good man for the job.”
Vic Crowe.
